CROSSING OF THE EAST ISTHMUS OCTOBER 15

Panama. The Cruce del Istmo, is the largest MTB/XCO and gravel race and crossing in Panama, arrives next October for its sixth edition. A unique experience for fans of mountain biking, outdoor adventures and nature.

The Crossing of the Isthmus has become an unforgettable experience for those who complete it year after year. Crossing the narrow territory that characterizes Panama in the same day means that this sporting event continues to attract MTB (mountain bike) fans and experts from various parts of the world.

For this edition, around 400 cyclists from 12 countries will be present, with Panama being the most represented. It will also receive athletes from Colombia, Costa Rica, Belgium, the United States, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Ecuador, Spain and Switzerland.

The Cruce del Istmo is one of the toughest and most respected mountain bike events in the region, which has a mixed route of 120 kilometers (including the crossing of Gatun Lake in a cayuco), with a cumulative positive gradient of 1800 meters. The route is divided into 70% off road (dirt roads, stones, trails) and 30% asphalt.

Added to the unforgettable and challenging experience that the Isthmus Crossing represents, the economic injection that Panama receives from tourism generates around 500 thousand dollars during the month of October. This is distributed between hotel occupancy, and large and small businesses benefiting from the visit of hundreds of cyclists who see this event as a challenge to overcome each year.

Filming in the middle of a tropical humid forest is unique and, together with the biodiversity of Panama, makes the Crossing of the Isthmus an exclusive event in its branch. The stories behind each participant go beyond completing the test. They represent hours of training, perseverance, along with physical and mental strength to overcome the limits along the route. The goal is the great reward and seeing the satisfied faces of each runner is invaluable.
